Cookies Policy
Last updated: 19 November 2025
This Cookies Policy explains how the INCEPTION project website ("Site") uses cookies and similar technologies.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. They enable functionality (e.g., remembering preferences) and help measure aggregated usage.
2. Categories Used
Current implementation uses minimal categories:
- Essential: Remembers your cookie consent choice; required for the banner to function. (Strictly necessary; cannot be disabled.)
- Analytics (PostHog): Activated only after you click "Accept" or enable analytics in the preferences. Provides pseudonymous event data (page views, interactions) to assess dissemination impact and improve usability. No advertising, social media tracking pixels, or profiling cookies are intentionally deployed.
3. Consent Mechanism
On first visit, a banner prompts for consent. Analytics cookies are not set until you accept. You can open preferences ("More Options" or equivalent control) to adjust choices at any time. Declining analytics has no impact on core access.
4. Managing Cookies
You can:
- Use the on-site preference interface to withdraw consent for analytics.
- Delete cookies via browser settings (this may reset your consent state causing the banner to reappear).
- Block cookies globally in your browser (may affect remembering your preference).
5. PostHog Analytics Details
PostHog may set a cookie or local storage identifier (e.g., a random key) after consent to distinguish sessions. Data collected may include: pages visited, approximate timing of events, referrer, browser metadata. We configure PostHog to avoid collecting direct personal identifiers (like name or email). IP addresses may be processed transiently for routing and may be truncated or discarded per PostHog settings. No individual behavioral profiling with significant effects is performed.
6. Retention
- Consent preference: kept until you clear browser data or we change cookie names.
- Analytics events: retained for a proportionate period (≤ 12 months).
7. Third-Party Cookies
Currently limited to PostHog (analytics) once consent is granted. If future services are added (e.g., embedded media, maps) this Policy will be updated before activation.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update to reflect legal, technical or service changes. The "Last updated" date will change; significant changes may be highlighted in the banner or a Site notice.
9. Contact
Questions about cookies: [contact email to be published soon].
For details on personal data, see the Privacy Policy. Refusing analytics will not limit access to scientific content.
